Tales of Funding – Music Pioneer Rick Rubin

Here marks the first of a perpetual series of posts that we plan on doing called “Tales of Funding.”  In it, we’ll choose an individual that has played an instrumental part in the Entertainment industry and highlight their stories behind how they got started.

This week we choose the legendary super-producer Rick Rubin, co-Founder of Def Jam Records (along with Russell Simmons), who has spent the last 30 years being one of the most influential people within the Music Industry.  As the original producer for the Beastie Boys, discoverer of LL Cool J, and the production force behind legendary acts ranging from Run DMC to Red Hot Chilli Peppers, his vision and insight helped popularize Hip-Hop to the Mainstream Society when he linked Run DMC with Aerosmith in their cover track of “Walk this Way” as well as revitalize legendary Country Singer Johnny Cash’s career with his production of “American Recordings.”

MTV called him “the most important producer of the last 20 years” and in 2007, Rubin was listed among Time‘s 100 Most Influential People in the World.

The NY Times did a real good story on Rubin called, “The Music Man.”  Check out the article for more insight into this Music Pioneer:
